The Society was set up to promote Flat Holm and to assist the Flat Holm Project in as many ways as possible. Society members form working parties, act as guides on the island, raise funds and help with related jobs, as well as supporting social events on the mainland. If you go to the island to assist, whether to run the shop, prepare refreshments, act as a guide to day visitors or as a member of a working party, then you travel free of charge. Sometimes it is possible for those members wishing to spend more time working on Flat Holm to stay on the island. Depending on availability, you will sleep in dormitories in the farmhouse or in small family rooms at Driftwood. You are expected to provide and cook your own food; fridges, a microwave oven, deep freezers and gas cookers are available for use free of charge

You do not need specific skills to become a member of a working party, just a desire to help in the work on the island. However, any talents you wish to share will be put to good use, and you may well find that you acquire new skills too!
It is not all work, You will have time to yourself, and you will see Flat Holm at its best when you watch the sun setting over the water and see it rise again in the morning. You make new friends, have breakfast with them outside the farmhouse, work in the fresh air and have the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a positive contribution to the work of the nature reserve.
Each year Society members receive details of forthcoming activities: from time to time a newsletter brings members up to date with Society activities.
Association of Lighthouse Keepers working weekend on Flat Holm, will be painting the Fog Horn Keepers Cottage.
Cost: £60.00 includes boat, accommodation and breakfast. You will need to bring enough food for other meals.
