2004 News Letter (spring)
From our Secretary, Tony Sharp
2003 was a good year with Society members being involved in many of the
successful 3-hour and long day visits. In addition to the Society's days on the
island, the Project organised art, photography and yoga days for the public.
Dora's artists also came along on our late summer Long Day and we were indebted
to one of their number, Deiniol Morris, who manned the BBQ.
Numbers of participants varied according to the event, which included a quiz
night at the Mount Sorrel, a postal Fish Quiz, a trip on the Balmoral, a
barbecue at Gillian's garden and an invitation to participate in the BBC Wales
Look up your Genes roadshow at Barry Memorial Hall. This has been our best
fundraising year for a long time, and will enable the Society to purchase many
items from the Project's Wish List.
For 2004 we hope to have a presence at the Vale show, Penarth Festival and
events in Barry. These dates are not yet fixed and so I propose to send out
reminders to all of you who have participated in events over the last few years.
Sad to say my mailing list amounts to only 40 names so if you are interested,
send me a SAE or e-mail and I will contact you personally to remind you of
events taking place in the near future.
There is limited space for artists on Society long days. However, the Project
will probably be running more art, photography and yoga days, which include
tuition and an excellent lunch - details from the Project Office.
This year there are over 60 day visits scheduled. You are all welcome as paying
visitors (£13) but would be more welcome as Tour Guides. We have eight regular
guides and a possible two under training. We could always do with more,
especially those who are able to lead on weekdays. If you are interested give me
a call or e-mail me.
